The blood sucking, werewolf fighting, fairy sparkling, ghost seeing epic fantasy HBO series is almost here! “True Blood” has become a cult-like phenomenon since it’s first season debut in 2008 and has accumulated a devoted pack of followers. The TV series–which stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and the gorgeous Alexander Skarsgard–is based (rather loosely) on Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse Novels which has just added its 12th addition, Deadlocked. The show has become one of HBO’s highest-rated series and has skyrocketed its actors to fame.
As a die-hard truebie, HBO’s take on Harris’ novels is vastly different. I read the first five books and found that, although the supernatural elements come into play in its appropriate succession, the television show is much more gory and sexy than the novels. A lot of the plot is different and even characters take on different roles. For example, Season Two’s death of Miss Jeannette was actually Lafayette in the book series which completely changes the HBO perspective of the show.
Personally, I favor the TV show. “True Blood” is addicting, dramatic, comedic, and captivating in all the right ways. Many people are skeptical about “True Blood” considering the surge in lackluster romantic vampire entertainment (IE: The Twilight Saga, The Vampire Diaries, etc.) but my opinion is don’t knock it ’til you try it! “True Blood” is an awesome show and I am incredibly anxious for the Season 5 premiere. Check out the second Season 5 trailer below, if you haven’t already.
As a fellow Truebie, I cannot wait for Season 5 to start. Everytime I see the preview, I get so excited. I did read an article that says the show recently changed producers and I hope the new producer stays true to what Allan Ball created.
I totally agree! I wasn’t the biggest fan of Season4, I prefer Seasons 2 & 3 but this summer looks like it is going to be incredible!
